Perhaps you’ve wondered what is the Wealthy Affiliate Program for or about and how it will benefit you or anyone. Allow me to provide a review of my experience with the program and how it may help you. It’s definitely legit and not a scam.
I discovered Wealthy Affiliate (WA) in March, 2015 and took advantage of the free trial membership. It appeared to be risk-free. It turned out it was and still is.
WA is an online university (non-accredited) that provides many, if not all the tools necessary to be successful in online marketing, which includes affiliate marketing and more.
The question I suggest you ask yourself is what are you looking for and what do you expect?
This Is Who And What WA Is
WA is a Canadian based company that was founded in 2005 by two guys by the names of Kyle and Carson.
I’ve never met either of them face to face but have interacted with both of them online many times, Kyle much more than Carson.
Aside from the founders, WA is a massive community of people from all around the world who are at all levels of experience, or lack thereof, in terms of internet marketing. There are people with absolutely no experience and knowledge. There are also those with many years experience and a wealth of knowledge.
It is truly a community in that anyone and everyone is a potential student and/or teacher, depending on the situation. In many ways it’s a form of private social media. The interaction with others in the community, including the owners/founders is much the same as social media. Members can communicate openly with everyone or privately with anyone, which also includes Kyle and Carson. People actually respond to questions, comments, and concerns. Again, that includes the two founders.
It’s called a university because there are classes, tutorials, recorded videos, live webinars, and a plethora of blogs and other written materials to draw from, although as pointed out earlier, it’s not accredited. The beauty is everyone works at his or her own pace.
It’s open 24/7, 365 days a year.
It’s not accredited because it’s not technically a university. You will not receive a diploma. There are no professors or prerequistes.
Everyone and anyone can enroll.
Some of the offerings include:
- Website building
- Affiliate marketing bootcamp
- Online certification classes
- Live interactive training webinars
- Unlimited access to recorded training video tutorials
- Live chat
- Community feedback
- Community generated training
- Detailed general knowledge about internet marketing
- Unlimited questions and answers opportunities
Here’s How WA Works
Upon initial enrollment which includes none other than providing your name, a valid email address, choosing a user name and password (no credit card or payment information required), you are immediately entitled to a seven-day free trial membership with no strings attached.
During the seven-day trial period, trial members have access to nearly all the benefits of premium membership.
In other words, during that time, members are invited and encouraged to immerse themselves to their heart’s delight. You can ask all the questions you want, take advantage of all there is to take advantage of to literally try it on for size and decide if it’s what you’re looking for and if it will benefit you.
At the end of the seven days, you 3 have choices:
- Become a premium member at a discounted rate for the first month
- Remain a free member with very limited access
- Walk away–no questions asked–no strings attached
For those who choose premium membership, which most do, at the end of the first month at a discounted rate, there are also choices:
- Choose monthly membership
- Choose annual membership
- Cancel with no questions asked–no strings attached
There is no long-term commitment. People can cancel and re-enroll at their discretion with impunity.
There are basically two training paths. Starter and premium members are free to choose either or both.
1.Affiliate Marketing–All members automatically qualify as affiliates and receive a unique affiliate link. That means all members are able to earn affiliate commission when other people sign up for WA using their affiliate link.
For training purposes, WA is used as the example in the Affiliate Bootcamp which focuses solely on and demonstrates how to promote WA from beginning to end. The principles taught and learned can be applied to promoting just about any product as an affiliate. There are seven phases in this training and each phase has up to ten lessons.
2. Start Your Own Internet Marketing Business–This is more general in nature as the principles and methods taught can and do apply to just about any internet marketing business. If someone wants to develop his/her own idea, this training, although general in nature, is also very comprehensive and thorough. There are five levels in this training and each level has up to ten lessons.
Both programs are broken into manageable units and lessons. Each have tasks and assignments that need to be completed in order. However, the beauty is, members are able to jump ahead or go back as often as they like. There is no limit as to how often members are able to visit and/or revisit any training module.
Both focus on building and developing a website from scratch. The difference is, in the bootcamp the only product that is promoted is WA itself. The other program can be any business and/or any product.
All material is reviewed and updated as needed.
I have completed both. However, I suggest that you choose one and complete it prior to beginning the other. My first time through I tried to complete both of them concurrently. I don’t recommend that.
As I write this, I am committed to mastering the affiliate bootcamp first. However, the choice is yours.
Here’s How It Started For Me
I was like a lost child looking for someone to help me understand anything and everything about internet marketing. I didn’t really know what I was looking for other than I wanted to find a way to get my slice of the pie online. I knew it was massive and I knew people were making money. I wanted in. I had no idea what questions to ask and I had no idea who to ask. I was afraid of scams and to be honest I was leery about trusting anyone. It seemed and still seems to me everyone wants to get into my pocket as quickly and deeply as possible.
By the time I found WA, I realized what I was really looking for was someone I could trust and something I could afford. By then I had learned about the concept of affiliate marketing and realized it was a path I wanted to pursue.
An associate mentioned WA and suggested I check it out which is what I did.
I’m glad I did.
Prior to that I found myself in the ranks of the unemployed in 2012 at the age of 58. I was pretty sure there wasn’t a huge demand in the job market for people my age. I decided I would not allow myself to be defeated and vowed to make it the best thing that ever happened to me. I was going to be independent and wealthy.
I had and still have an insurance license and decided that’s where I’d begin. It was at that time, I decided to create a website. Even though I had no experience, I believed I’d figure it out. I bought a domain and set out to make my mark online. At the same time I was reading books and attending seminars, trying to absorb as much information as possible, all the while looking for a way to make things happen online.
By 2015 I had spent thousand$, was in debt, divorced, and had not made one cent online!
I was pretty much desparate.
That’s when I found WA.
How It Went For Me
If you’re expecting me to say it changed my life, that I began making tons of money and I lived happily ever after, you’d be wrong. That’s not at all what happened.
On the other hand, I realized that I had found what I was looking for and had learned what questions to ask, at least some of them. What I found with WA was what I said earlier in this writing what I was looking for, someone, or in this case, something I could trust and something I could afford.
I dove in head first and I was all in.
It was like I had found the fountain of youth. I was like a kid in a candy store or on Christmas morning. I was like a teen who’d just gotten a driver license or learner permit.
I was intoxicated with dreams, ideas, and more.
I immersed myself in the program day in and day out. I enjoyed it and learned a lot, more than I thought I would. I learned that the more I learned, the more I realized how little I knew. I was a bit overwhelmed but at the same time I loved it.
By the end of 2015, I was on the brink of bankruptcy and much further in debt than when I’d found WA in March!. By then I was definitely desparate. I’d made a little money online but certainly not enough to live on. I’d earned enough to buy an occasional lunch.
Yeah, I was disappointed.
I can’t say I totally abandoned WA but I had to de-emphasize it. I had to concern myself with more basic things like paying rent and feeding myself. I hung on as a premium member of WA for several months before finally stopping my premium membership altogether.
Am I blaming WA?
Is it the fault of WA that I found myself in dire straits after all those months?
Am I saying WA doesn’t work and that I regret ever having anything to do with them?
If I Could Rewind Time
If you don’t already see what I’m saying and in case you can’t or aren’t reading between the lines, let me spell it out for you: I invested ALL my time, money, and credit into my future, believing if I believed in myself and did everything I was taught at WA that one day the money would start pouring in. I believed that WA would somehow magically transform me.
- I kept jumping ahead of the program and did things I was advised not to do:
- I tried to go in too many different directions at one time rather than focus on one thing at a time
- I tried to re-invent the wheel so to speak
- I allowed myself to become desparate which led to foolish decisions
- I lost faith in the program and myself
What I didn’t do was take care of my immediate finances.
I highly recommend that you do NOT do it the way I did!
I’m a Retread
Having said all that, I still believe in WA and have had the time to evaluate my mistakes and get my finances somewhat in order, at least to a managable level. A while back I set a goal of setting aside a little here and there, AFTER paying all current expenses, until I had enough to pay for an annual premium membership. Although the monthly membership is reasonable, the last thing I needed/need was/is another monthly payment. Besides that, a huge discount is offered for annual membership.
Going forward, I plan to devote as much time as I can to advancing in the online world. However, I have got to stay focused on what’s in front of me on a day to day basis first.
Through this somewhat harrowing experience, I came to realize I might be able to help others avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made. That’s when and why I came up with with the name for this website, Get Out Of Our Own Way.
Here’s What Premium Membership Costs
- First month is $19 if enrolled prior to expiration of trial membership
- Monthly membership $49
- Annual membership $359
The choice is yours
What can you expect if you join?

- You can expect a certain level of frustration
- You can expect to ask lots of questions
- You can expect to connect with others like yourself
- You can expect lots of support
- You can expect that what you see is what you get and that there are no hidden costs and upgrades required
What can you NOT expect if you join?
- You CANNOT expect to be pressured by anyone about anything

- You CANNOT expect to learn more than you’re capable of at any given time
- You CANNOT expect to become an expert overnight just because you’ve paid for premium membership
- You CANNOT expect anyone but yourself to be the ultimate reason for your success or lack thereof
Here’s The Bottom Line
If you’re willing to pay the price, put in the time and stay out of your own way, there’s a lot of benefit to the WA program. If you’re not completely committed, you’ll waste your time and money.
I highly recommend the WA program and give it an overall score in the high 90’s out of 100.
